I didn`t paint landscapes until I relocated to the North East, from Wigan in the North West, but since moving up here there are so many beautiful scenes to paint no matter where you are, or whatever the weather is like. There is everything, from rugged coastlines, to castle ruins, sandy beaches, magnificent gardens and areas of outstanding natural beauty, even I could not resist painting them.

Heading Home.
15x11"
Watercolours
Arches rough watercolour paper.
Sold.
This is the sight that a lot of people look out for when they are returning home, and what a warm welcoming sight it is.
This view has been commissioned a few times over the years. I don`t just paint the same image every time, so that each piece is individual to the person who is commissioning me. I will change the light, or the colours or add the persons vehicle into the scene.

Paintings of the Tyne and it`s bridges are always popular, especially night time scenes with the bridges all lit up.

This must be the most famous café in the North East. I have been commissioned to paint this café many times over the years. Usually by people who have emigrated, this place always remains deep in their hearts. I was commissioned by a lady in Italy who wanted to give it to her cousin as a present, it turned out to be for the lady who runs the café now, so I got the pleasure of hand delivering it to her for her birthday.

A big thank you to English Nick for very kindly allowing me to use his photograph as my reference.
I punched up the colours a little, but Mother Nature painted the scene so well, I couldn`t improve on perfection.

No matter whatever the weather, there is always something to see. Just a few days ago, I was stood in the same place as I was for this scene, but this time I was watching a pod of dolphins jumping and flipping in a turquoise blue sea.
My friend had to have hip replacement surgery, so she wasn`t feeling well enough to paint big pictures, so we bought 20 mini (7x5") canvas boards each to paint on during her recovery. These turned out to be best sellers, and before we knew it we had to buy more and more packs.
One day I was painting at the Old Low Lights at North Shields Fish Quay, and I had people watching me painting a scene, so they could buy them off me there and then.

The tide was out and the sun was lighting up the shapes in the rock better when I started this painting, but as you can see in the photo the tide was coming in which made the rock look short and fatter.

Hazy Days Of Summer.
10x11"
Pastels
Velvet paper.
This is virtually the same scene as the one above, but as you can tell I`ve changed the season. The velvety paper gives this scene a soft hazy look, but the trouble is you have to get it framed quick because it is so tactile. Everyone feels the need to stroke it, but because it is pastel it would rub off if anyone did so.
